The Gold Star Run honors Scott J Procopio, who served his country as a United States Marine in Fallujah (2005) and Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2006, Scott was killed in action as a result of a roadside bomb on the morning of April 2nd in Ramadi Iraq.
The CPL. Scott J. Procopio Memorial Scholarship Fund aims to provide educational scholarships, assistance and opportunities for the children, siblings and spouses of members of the United States Armed Forces who have been killed in combat operations.
This organization has been awarding annual scholarships to graduating local seniors in memory of CPL Procopio since 2006, with over $55,000 in scholarships awarded at local schools.
