EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BUILDING A BRAND

Hello there! And welcome to Branding 101. This is a mini blog series where I go in depth into little topics that can make a HUGE impact on your branding, how you’re perceived by your clients and the success of your business. Why should you read on? Because I’m an award winning Freelance Brand Designer with over a decade of experience branding for businesses big and small. I’m here to help and share my branding prowess with YOU!

LESSON 1: THE TYPO

I get it, typos happen. In an age where nearly all communication is digital, we’ve got electronics and devices and technology to help us avoid a spelling faux-pas. The problem is, we don’t always double check! When I was growing up, I was always taught to go back at the end of an assignment or project and CHECK MY WORK. It’s not a difficult task, but it does take a little extra time and people often click “publish” without a second thought. The upside to this? We’ve gotten some HILARIOUS Autocorrect Memes over the years, but what does a typo really say about us?

When you’re building a brand, you’re building connections between yourself and your customers. You want them to feel and think certain ways about you. First and foremost you want them to think you’ve got your sh*t together. Even if your brand is whimsical or satirical, having a professional aire about you is key to business success.

WHAT TYPOS REALLY SAY ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS

Sure, mistakes get make, but in the business world typos are no “happy accident.” They say nasty, mean things about you to your clients. They say “these people are too lazy to use spellcheck” and “they don’t pay attention to details.” A typo is a bright red caution sign that disrupts the reader and makes them work harder. That typo could cause your potential clients to stop reading and find a better resource. They’ll bounce.

It doesn’t matter what type of business you’re running, typos are NOT your friend. It’s a super small detail, but it makes a big impact. Typos are an important part of building a brand. If you pay attention to all those little details, it strengthens your brand, builds trust and simply just makes things easier to read.

So pay attention to typos! They could be the difference between a conversion and a click-away.

Thanks for reading and happy branding!
